eMerging Entrepreneurs, Inc.; with the support of the Emily K. Center and the Veterans Employment Division of the NC Department of Commerce’s “Division of Workforce Solutions” (or NC Works); is excited to announce the 3rd installment of its “Service to Success” program.  The initiative aims to provide our local veterans, reservists, transitioning service-members, and military spouses with workforce preparedness training and job placement resources.  The program is designed to equip our nation’s heroes with access to resume writing assistance, skills evaluations, interview prep, and other career development resources as they seek to transition back into the NC job market.  Powered by a Community Development Grant from Wells Fargo, “Service to Success” is an ambitious economic initiative; providing our service-members and their families with direct access to a variety of career-focused resource programs.  Our simple goal is to align the talented individuals of our nation’s military with valuable Employment, Transitional, Educational, Entrepreneurial, and even Social resources from across the region; bringing together a range of non-profit service providers for the benefit of those who have sacrificed so much in defense of our country.

Workshop attendees will be introduced to a range of topics; from job search strategies, career decision-making, and current occupational labor-market conditions; to resume writing, cover letter preparation, and interview techniques.  eMerging Entrepreneurs has also aligned with local resource groups like Suited-N-Success; who will offer personal development training and recommendations of interview-quality business attire to men and women who want to make a great first impression!  Sessions will include (but are not limited to):

  • Choosing a Compatible Work Field;
  • Developing and Honing an Efficient Resume & Cover Letter;
  • Interview Techniques;
  • Translating Military Service to suit the Needs of the Civilian Employer;
  • Appropriate Civilian Work Attire;
  • Optimizing Military Benefits & Resources;
  • Salary & Benefit Package Negotiation; and
  • Networking Strategies.

Sessions are scheduled throghout the calendar year, and are held at the Emily K. Center, located downtown Durham at: 904 W. Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701.  Registration is FREE to all veterans, reservists, active-duty service-members, and their immediate family members.

eMerging Entrepreneurs, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that extends Small Business services to veterans, military spouses, urban youth, and other under-served communities.  As a result of their efforts, eMerging Entrepreneurs’ Executive Director T.J. Breeden has received a number of awards and endorsements; among them the White House’s “Champions of Change” award (in conjunction with President Obama’s Winning the Future” initiative), the US Small Business Administration’s “Veteran Entrepreneurship Advocate of the Year” award, and the 2014 “Dr. John Hope Franklin Humanitarian of the year” award.

We believe that “Service to Success” work in conjunction with our entrepreneurship platform, in that our commitment to supporting veteran-led startups in turn creates the need to better prepare a veteran-led workforce!  So, just as our programs aim to serve local entrepreneurs, we also want to be a resource to local heroes attempting to navigate through what can be a challenging period of economic and social transition.
